Models from Lille

Lille! An experience I needed! For the first 4 days I left the university for the 30 minute march back to the digs wishing nothing more than to go home or crack everybody heads together, after a couple of beers in the hotel bar my feelings hadn't changed. Friday made it all worth while though.

On Monday we were placed in groups to come up with conceptual ideas, which were formulated and presented the next day where we were then placed in larger groups to rethink each scheme and amalgamate the two schemes. A lot of conflict arose within the merged group. The French students were quite determined to enlarge the cityscape with little interest in green and blue corridors, the basis of the other scheme. Differences disturbed the working order and on Thursday morning with just over 24hrs of working time left the plan had not been agreed and the working group was divided between green and blue spaces with a mid to low density of urban integration and the other half of the group who's idea of green spaces was a few trees between massive buildings. Compromise was finally reached after dummies and toys where thrown out of the pram with a lot of work needing doing in very little time span. The group then pulled together and worked solidly through out the night and next morning to produce the final model, plan, sectional drawings and sketches with an A3 document. The project was presented to the Mayor of Lille and city officials, it went well.
All in all this was an experience I would recommend to all. The positives of Friday out weighed the rest of week, the more you push yourself the more you get out of it.
